Reconsideration of Ambiguities in Quad-Pol SAR

چکیده

Merging the complex signals available from both cross-polarized (cross-pol) channels of a quad-polarimetric (quad-pol) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) may lead not only to a 3-dB gain in the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), but also to a remarkable improvement in the azimuth and range ambiguity-to-signal ratios (AASR, RASR) of cross-pol data, especially if azimuth phase coding is employed. Staggered SAR operation is also addressed, for which a novel azimuth phase code is proposed. Range ambiguities in cross-pol data can also be reduced by adopting a hybrid-polarimetric architecture, but this may result in a degradation of the AASR of the cross-pol channels.

Marine target detection in quad-pol synthetic aperture radar imagery based on the relative phase of cross- polarized channels

A focus on marine target detection in noise corrupted fully polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is presented. The property of the relative phase between two cross-polarized channels reveals that the relative phases evaluated within sea surface area or noise corrupted area are widely spread phase angle region 1⁄2−π; π due to decorrelation effect; however, the relative phases are concentr...

On the Added Value of Quad-Pol Data in a Multi-Temporal Crop Classification Framework Based on RADARSAT-2 Imagery

Polarimetric SAR images are a rich data source for crop mapping. However, quad-pol sensors have some limitations due to their complexity, increased data rate, and reduced coverage and revisit time. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the added value of quad-pol data in a multi-temporal crop classification framework based on SAR imagery. With this aim, three RADARSAT-2 scenes were a...

Classification Comparisons between Compact Polarimetric and Quad-pol Sar Imagery

Recent interest in dual-pol SAR systems has lead to a novel approach, the so-called compact polarimetric imaging mode (CP) which attempts to reconstruct fully polarimetric information based on a few simple assumptions. In this work, the CP image is simulated from the full quad-pol (QP) image. We present here the initial comparison of polarimetric information content between QP and CP imaging mo...

Analysis of Compact Polarimetric Sar Imaging Modes

Recent interest in dual-pol SAR systems has lead to a novel approach to dual-pol SAR, the so-called compact polarimetric imaging mode. The original idea, presented by Souyris et al. [1], employed a SAR system transmitting a linearly polarized wave rotated by 45° with respect to the orientation of the vertical (V) and horizontal (H) receive antennas. One then constructed pseudo quad-pol data fro...

Maximum Likelihood Shift Estimation using High Resolution Polarimetric SAR Clutter Model

This paper deals with a Maximum Likelihood (ML) shift estimation method in the context of High Resolution (HR) Polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) clutter. Texture modeling is exposed and the generalized ML texture tracking method is extended to the merging of various sensors. Some results on displacement estimation on the Argentière glacier in the Mont Blanc massif using dual-pol TerraSAR-X (TSX) and qu...
